It’s Time for our annual October Domestic Violence Drive

With lockdowns and unemployment, many are restrained to home where there may already be violence, but now there is no relief by being able to leave. The stress of the pandemic and economic recession has added to the anger and fear driving up incidences of violence both in the home and on the streets. Supporting shelters, providing mental health support, and reaching out to those in danger is essential.

HealthLink Initiative is dedicated to relieving the strain of health and wellness costs for victims of abuse. One in every four women and one in every nine men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. The annual cost of domestic violence exceeds $8.8 billion each year, of which $5.8 billion is for health-related costs. This financial burden in addition to the emotional cost can be a limiting factor in making a change to a new and safer life.

HLI has held this annual event since 2014 and will continue to support this need to save lives.

Geri’s Kitchen Table

HealthLink Initiative launches “Geri’s Kitchen Table” initiative

Supporting the importance of a good meal and a helping hand.

Named after my grandmother who always made sure everyone got a hug, a smile, and plenty to eat with a fresh cooked meal ready when we visited. She took care of us and in her honor, we aim to help take care of others.

HealthLink Initiative launched a new program to support seniors during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says seniors and those with preexisting conditions are high risk and should stay at home. While most everyone is experiencing a financial crisis at this time, these individuals are experiencing an even greater level of fear in getting out to get food and essentials to live. HLI is committed to helping by easing this burden through supplemental efforts.

A few of the strategies we are employing are:

Providing Gift cards for groceries and essentials
Supporting local food pantries
Co-paying for medical equipment like wheelchairs, grab bars, shower stools, and more
Contributions to Amazon wish accounts

Moody Family Needs Your Help

HealthLink Initiative asks for your support for the Moody family. Belkis Moody, wife of author and co-founder of the Authors’ Round Table Society, John M. Moody, has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma. HLI has contributed through their GoFundMe page and asks anyone who would like to help, to please donate as well.

Say No to Autoimmune!

Autoimmune Disease effects 50 million Americans, 75% of which are women. It is one of the top ten leading causes of death for women and female children. There are over 80 diseases caused by the autoimmune system attacking cells, tissues, and organs. Because of it’s prevailing incidence, HealthLink Initiative has decided to focus on this issue with providing research and tools. We are focusing our articles on ways to prevent or fight autoimmune disease. We are also starting an online resource for products designed to assist with systemic inflammation. These will be vetted by doctors associated with HLI and who have a passion for fighting back against autoimmune.

West, Texas Rebuild Project

On April 17th, 2013, West, a small Texas town near HLI experienced a devastating event. Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone affected. We are saddened by the tragic deaths of so many, hurting for the survivors who have to endure, and are inspired by the heroic efforts of so many.

Three of the schools have been heavily damaged, emergency vehicles have been destroyed, homes have been completely lost. While we can only offer prayers for the families affected by the blast, we can do this small thing of collecting funds to help with the rebuilding efforts that will soon follow. Texans are resilient and strong. They will recover with time and our help.

HealthLink Initiative has pledged that all donations collected through the end of May will be used for the “Rebuild West” fund.
